Junto Day: making room for civil discussion

A student debate that became a meaningful experience in civil discussion and community-building.

Junto Day was one of the most nerve-racking moments of my life, in the best way possible. I moderated a debate between Austin Keefe and Dino Fantegrossi, bringing differing political perspectives into a shared conversation.

On the surface, it was a debate. My hope was to show how debate could evolve into civil discussion and help a community grow.

Standing in front of the crowd and guiding that intense exchange toward a successful conversation was deeply meaningful to me. It made the work of creating space for discussion feel tangible.
